Having posted an earlier question , I am now trying to decide on whether to base ourselves at Lake Garda or Lake Maggiore.........we are a couple with a 5 year old child. How do both compare in terms of what you can do in each?

Would any of them be more accessible for tours / day trips to Venice / Florence?

Many thanks in advance.

Only know Lake Garda. Beautiful. Access to all towns across the Lake.....boat trips. Very accessibility to Venice, Verona (Go to the Opera there even if not an opera buff ) It's an experience of a lifetime.

There are connections to Florence but always busy Go, but with 5 yr old much queuing.! Lakeside activities and water access at Garda town . Riva del Garda north end of lake has much to offer.

Thank you very much for your suggestions and recommendations.

I have stayed at all three lakes. All different. Desenzano on Lake Garda was a good base and easy to get to on a Ryanair flight to Bergamo. At the other end of the lake Riva del Garda was nice.
On Lake Como we stayed at Bellagio. Really lovely but involved a change of train and a boat trip to get to it. Beautiful gardens in Bellagio and across the lake by boat.
Lake Maggiore as mentioned we stayed in Stresa. You can take the hydrofoil to the Swiss side of the lake to Locarno, the hydrofoil stops mid lake as you enter Swiss territory to have your passport checked. The Borromean islands are stunning and visible from Stresa.

Hi Just a quick suggestion have you checked places along the adriattic coast.
