Laid off 6 months, no redundancy paid yet, can it still be claimed or it too late?

My friend worked in the construction industry for 5 years with the same company. He was laid off about 6 months ago. He didn't look for redundancy as his now ex-employer said he would re-hire him if things picked up. However, he has heard nothing since. Can my friend still look for redundancy now? Is there an expiration date on when you claim redundancy after being paid off?

the department of enterprise, trade and employment have a cut off of 6 months but they can extend this period in certain circumstances.

It sounds to me like you are one of those circumstances. Get onto your employer asking for payment if they dont pay it complete an rp77 from entemp.ie and tsend to the department and wait for an EAT appeal date.

Best of luck.

Thanks Jack. It actually is a friend in this case. I'd have no problem admitting if it was myself.

According to the Dept of ent and employment's "Guide to Redundancy" paragraph 16B you have 52 weeks from the termination of employment to make a claim
