Klaipeda, Lithuania

I am intending to spend 3 or 4 days around Klaipeda. Is it better to stay in Klaipeda or on the Curonian Spit itself? I expect I would like to visit the spit nearly every day.

I was there a few years ago.

What time of the year are you going?

The Curonian Spit has just a few small villages and resorts. Its all based around the beaches. Alot of this closes down at the end of August, middle of September. The main attractions on the Spit are the dunes, the beaches, aquarium, forests and of the course the amber! However I'd just get the ferry from Klaipedia everyday, its cheap.

There's more to do in the evenings in Klaipeda, more restaurants and bars. Villages & resorts on the spit are more family orientated and the evenings will be quiet.

I had great fun there in 2004, it was very cheap. I remember trying my hardest to spend more than €30 on dinner and drinks for two, I ordered numerous cocktails and the bill still came in at €27.50! I don't know how cheap Lithuania is now?
