Hi,

I'm renovating a second hand house and my first job is the kitchen. I can't decide if I should get a pelmet (I think that's what you call it?) over the kitchen window. It's usually over windows with spotlights in it and part of the kitchen units.

Anyway, the kitchen will have high gloss cream doors and a wooden worktop. It's a fairly simple plan, would a pelmet look a bit out dated or will it look bare without one.

All opinions welcome.

Thanks, Minnie.

I don't like pelmets over kitchen windows- I think it "frames" the window and can make the window look smaller and makes the window look darker. Often these window pelmets look very "twee" and over detailed with added lights, mouldings and trim etc. A window is an architectural feature in itself which needs no dressing, other than a good quality roller blind- especially in a nice strong colour!

I agree with Carpenter. they block light & look very out-dated & usually way too fussy.
It does come down to personal choice a lot though.
