hi all,

I'm hoping to go to Westport for a few days at the end of October.
Just wondered if anyone could advise on good resturaunts/pubs/live music venues there?

Also, any info on horse riding or seaweed baths (not at the same time obviously!!) would be appreciated.

Thanks a million,

BB

Visit Achill, while there.
If wish to visit a resturant, book well in advance as they are usually booked. Well the decent ones are !

Mango Restaurant near the Clock Tower has great food and a very friendly chef/waiting staff.

Hi,
we were recently at a stag do in westport and somehow managed to get up early sunday morning to go surfing just outside louisberg at carrowniski strand (not sure of the spelling).

25 euro each for all the gear and instruction and as much time as you could handle. It was our first time and we are all dying to do it again. Great fun.

Lots of music usually in Westport - try Matt Molloys. Watch that trip to ACHILL - its a long way and if raining can be pretty miserable. Lots of choice for eating out. All in all you should have a good weekend.

Thanks for that info.
Rainyday, what type of food does the Mango Resturaunt do?
Tallchappy, prob wont make it to Achill I'd say. Was there for a week earlier in the year, so I'd say we will stick to Westport itself.
I've been to Matt Molloys a few years ago, seemed like a nice spot alright.

Is there a cinema in Westport?

Thanks very much,
BB

Great fresh seafood, plus some nice other options - hard to label it - maybe 'modern Irish'....

Is there a cinema in Westport?

Yes, It only opened this year. It is beside one of the swimming pools/ health centre off Jamess St. A new childrens playground was also opened in the complex.

Good pubgrub available in The Tavern Bar Murrisk which is just out the Louisbourg road a small bit.

Il Vulcanos, just up the hill from the clock tower. Fillet steak with wild mushroom sauce - to die for
Specialises in Italian foods and anything I have had there has been first class.
The Atlantic Coast Hotel has a great restrauant too. Spectacular views in daylight from most seats in the rest.

You won't go wrong with either but book well in advance as I got caught leaving it till last minute the last time!

Re: westport

Super Value breaks have Hotel Westport as part of their offer, just collect tokens and all that. Nice hotel, good food in restraunt. Also recommend Il Volcano, lovely Carbonera and reasonable house wine. There is another Italien restraunt across the road from it that looks good too.

westport

Fantastic restaurent just outside the gates of Westport House. The Quay Cottage - its done in a nautical theme and food is fab - a treat.

Thanks a mill for those, I'm a big fan of italian, so will definately try that one out. I'm staying in the Harbour area, or the Quay area, I'm not sure which its called.

Any other suggestions gratefully appreciated, for shopping, light lunches, cafes etc. Or places to avoid!

Is there still a tapas bar there? I recall some friends talking about one a year or two ago, wouldn't mind trying that if its still there. Can anyone recommend?

Thanks very much, I really appreciate all the tips!

Re: re

Wondering if anyone can recommend between the Atlantic Coast Hotel or Hotel Westport. I've a budget of about €250 for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) for 2 adults and these are within my immediate radar. However, if anyone has any other recommendations I'd be open to suggestions.

Was there a couple of weeks ago. very impressed. Great weekend. Ate at a restaurant called the lemon peel , not too cheap but it was one of teh nicest meals I had in a long time.
