Hi, my question is can I claim any benefit or tax credits etc?

I am married with one child and one on the way in June. I am permanent in my job [35k p.a.] My wife is a foreign national and is a homemaker[ she will return to college in a year or two when the babies are a bit older]. I am claiming tax credits for my wife and since our first baby was born. Thats about all I know really. Are my credits increased when the new Baby is born in 2 months time? I heard I might be eligible for the home carers tax credits or some such. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Brian.

You would be entitled to
Personal Tax Credit €1,830 + €1,830 for your wife = €3,660
PAYE Tax Credit €1,830
As your wife is a stay-at-home mum with dependent children you would qualify for the Home Carer Tax Credit €900. ( same regardless of how many children)
Thats a total of €6,390. You might also have employee flat rate expenses tax credit depending on the job.

You can earn up to €45,400 at 20% so at €35,000 you would only pay tax at 20% or €700.00.
Your tax credits at €6,390 would cover most of this so your tax for the year would be about €610.

Separately, you might check out Family Income Supplement. You may qualify for something, especially with 3 children. There's a link here

Hi, I just got my pin no. etc off the revenue and cross checked it with my payslip. I think I recieve all the benefits you stated above and I will look into the FIS. But if I have E6400 credits and should pay 7000 tax a year that means I should pay E600 in tax or E50 p.m. in tax? I paid E148 in PRSI and E35 in PAYE[ my total tax was E211 in March alone this year. Is this right?

Thanks,

Brian.

I can't quite reconcile your tax deductions with figures I've calculated based on the previous information (I'm assuming you work in the private sector).

My reckoning is that your March payslip should show the following (unless your credits or cut-off point changed between January and March or I've missed something like a pension deduction):

Gross pay 2917
PAYE (51)
PRSI (153)
Income levy (29)
Net pay 2683

The above assumes an annual cut-off point of €45400, annual credits of €6390, annual gross of €35000. If there's something else let me know and I can recompute.

Sorry if I didnt give u enough info.
I was acting Unit Manager on 43 grand from March 2008- March 9th 2009. Now I am on 35 grand since then. My wages for March was 2843 net with 211 total tax and prsi. Even a year ago when I wasnt acting U.M. I was getting about 2600 per month with 250ish tax. I had the same credits etc. even then. So I should be paying 50 Euro a month I think, if my credits are 6400 and my tax is 7000 per year, no. Am I missing something? Anything else I should be telling u?

Thanks,

Brian.

ps I am public sector.[but not in the super annuity pension scheme.]

You can download a calculator at taxcalc.eu/monthlyss (I wrote it)

Try using that to see if the figures tally- If you can't follow the steps required to use the spreadsheet feel free to either send me a pers msg here at AAM or email the address included on the spreadsheet.
