Has anybody got any advice on how to complete this task ?
Thanks but that is the link I found. Note how step two states to submit the paper form.I think the couple must submit an Assessable Spouse form:
Sorry, I see now that this form is not necessary, and you can change your Civil Status in MyAccount:
How to select an assessable spouse or nominated civil partner
You can decide which of you is to be the assessable person.
You can do this by:
You must do this on, or before, 31 March in the year you want the selection to apply.
- using myAccount to update your civil status and select your basis of assessment
- completing an Assessable Spouse Election or Nominated Civil Partner’s Election form
- or
- sending a letter, signed by both of you, nominating the assessable partner.
You do not have to make the selection. If no selection is made, the spouse or civil partner with the higher income automatically becomes the assessable spouse or nominated civil partner.
The assessable spouse or nominated civil partner does not change until you and your spouse or civil partner:
- select the other spouse or civil partner
- or
- select for Separate Assessment or Separate Treatment.
My issue is more how to get a corrected tax credit cert for both of us without sending in a paper form. Seems strange that it is all online but only to a point. From memory - once you elect to change the assessable spouse online you've got to wait a day or two for the new assessable spouse to be able to access the tax return pages.
There are three options to make the change, you can choose any of them. Thanks but that is the link I found. Note how step two states to submit the paper form.

That’s what I was hoping for, thanks. When you get set up for Joint Assessment you should see a section in myaccount called
Divide tax credits
You can make any changes in credits and bands there.
On the home page, click the 3 horizontal lines in the top righthand corner.I don’t see the section. Possible it won’t show until 2025 starts?
Thanks a millOn the home page, click the 3 horizontal lines in the top righthand corner.
You should then see the Divide tax credits section. It should be there when you can see your spouses details.
Check if these are available by clicking on your name on the home page.
