Hi all. Some advice/help required. I`ve been living in Belfast for the past month after moving (after a break up) from Holland. I moved here after several weeks flat hunting and travelling back and forth. I finally found a place and signed a private lease on the 16th of last month. I paid my deposit/1st months rent with what i had. I then contacted my local Benefits Office seeking advice until i found work. Since this day last month when i applied for Jobseekers I haven`t received anything. I`ve been told (after enquiring several times) that JS was denied. When i asked why i was told theres a letter on its way. After waiting (foolish) i went back to the office where i was told the reason my claim was denied was "i`ve not been a habitual resident in the UK for the past 14 years". Prior to 13 months in Holland i was in Dublin.

Can someone please advise me why/how my claim was denied?

I signed on 2 weeks ago and will sign on on Friday. I`m a UK born citizen and i`m getting really angry about the way im being treated. I don`t want handouts, just help until I get settled.

Any advice would be much appreciated

This is an irish site in relation to Irish laws/taxes etc, UK have a completely different system so not sure people will be able to answer your questions here.

Oops, apologies. I first used this site when i lived in Ashbourne. I`ll find the relevant site.

As I understand it this is correct, since you have only just arrived... If you were unemployed in The Netherlands then you should have made the claim there and if you were less than 3 months in Dublin, they are still responsible for you!
