Joint or single assessment for married couple.

Hi all,

Just looking for opinions, both my wife and I have been married several year and have begin in the lucky position of earning very similar amounts (both on higher bracket, within a few hundred per year). I'm in civil service & she is in private sector. When we married we chose to keep tax assessment as single as we could not see the benefit of joint assessment.

With current belt tightenings, I'm wonder is this still a good Idea?

What are the pros & cons of each situation?
