Joint assessment versus separate treatment

My wife and I are under separate treatment for income tax purposes. We run a company as proprietary directors withdrawing a salary under the PAYE system. Is there any legal or tax reason why we cannot be treated as jointly assessed for income tax purposes?

Was this not already dealt with in your other thread earlier today by another poster and your ex accountant.
