Having never gotten JB before, is it as I hear, a weekly collection from the post office? Is it only on a specific day? What happens if you do not collect for a week, do you lose it? thanks

Doesn't seem to talk about the day - have you received a notification from DSP? I would have thought there would be the information on that.
 
Paid Wednesday but you can get it directly into your bank account which makes most sense these COVID days and even at the best of times unless you particularly like queuing and socialising at your local Post Office.

It's paid by direct credit to your bank account each Thursday however the minister recently announced there's going to be a return to post office collections to combat fraud/dead people still receiving payments

It varies. They will notify you what day you need to collect it and at what post office. It may not be the one closest to you and it is very likely you will need to collect it at the post office. As far as I know you can only have it lodged into your account in certain cases. I'm not sure what happens if you don't collect it on the day. They should issue a letter that will give all the details but they may be able to help you at the desk too.

Nope. I know of somebody who just had their JB drop into their account now with the transaction dated tomorrow.

Still no. I'm with someone now and they've shown me their historical payments-always on a Thursday.
 
Jobseekers benefit is generally paid on Wednesdays. Payment on Thursdays may be an anomaly, or another scheme.
 
Years ago when I was on JB you could collect on any day from Wednesday to Friday of that week. If you didn't make Friday it was 'sent back' and you had to go explain yourself to HQ.

That's my memory as well except to add that if you didn't collect, the payment was returned to "HQ" and any further payments were stopped until you went down to HQ and explained to them why you weren't able to collect your payment and then it could take a week or two for it to switched on again
