Hi All,

my wife was planning on taking part on a VTOS course in September. Her jobseekers benefit would have brought her up to September but since the budget changes her payments are due to now end mid July. We had enquired and were assured that she would be paid for 12 months but the letter arrived in the door saying this would be cut.

She now is not entitled to do the course as a result as she will not be receiving a DSP payment.

Could she elect to sign off for a period to bring her up to that point? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

When her jsb exhausts in July she can apply for jobseekers allowance which is a means tested payment and if she qualifies for this then she may still qualify for vtos.

If she had been receiving JB for 6 months at 03/04/2013 then she should get JB for 12 months . She should query it with Social Welfare.
I will try and look up Budget 2013 to verify this.

see here :

She has queried it and was told that it was just very unfortunate! She started on her JB in 18th Oct so missed out on the 12 months payment by 2 weeks and would have made the course so it appears that she just missed out.

I don't think she will be entitled to JA as I am currently working. Thanks for your reply.

If she is signing for credits she can do a VTOS course.

She queried this and you are correct but she would not get paid when she is on the course unfortunately.
