Jobseekers Assistance

Hi

Can anyone give me an idea of the waiting time for Jobseekers Assistance to come through, my husband just finished in Sep the Back to work enterprise scheme and had to close another business Actually looking to move to Canada now as cannot get a job, but in the meantime waiting for this jobseekers assistance to come through. Also had Mortgage supplement cut to 1/3 of what the full payment is. The past two weeks have been fine with children allowance and back to school allowance coming through so had that money budgeted to cover everything and mortgage company being supportive and waiting for this to sort itself out. So this week there is nothing coming in and im worried. Hate having to go to the social welfare for money! Makes me feel sick even asking!!

Has your husband supplied all the information for the means test? How long ago did he do that?

The waiting time varies from office to office, but can be several weeks depending on the complexity of the means test and the backlog of claims.

If there is a delay in processing the Jobseekers Allowance claim, your husband may be eligible for Supplementary Welfare Allowance, which is also means-tested (but it can be processed faster). Contact the SWA officer for your area (who may have been dealing with your Mortgage Interest Supplement claim).
