I applied for the ja last year after a year on the JB was refused the JA after a means test as my husbands wages were to high , I have continued to look for work but nothing happening in my area.

My husband has now been made redundant and I am wondering if i can reapply for the JA as i have still not gotten work.
The only thing is i have not continued to sign on for credits as we will approx 30 miles from local SWO and i dont have a car anymore. As we could not afford to run two cars.

Your husband could claim JB for the family, and would receive the same money as you and he would get if you claimed JA and he claimed JB.

The rate paid for both claims can't exceed what the JB rate would be for your family size.

Signing in your own right would give you credited contributions though, which may prove important in later years when applying for Social Welfare benefits or pensions.
