Hi

How does it work when a self employed person whos business dries up sign on for JSA and then starts to make some money

If e.g. they make 5K in year, is JSA reduced by this amount spread out over year?

Any earnings from self-employment are assessed under the means test.

what I really mean is if I made 5K- what affect would that have on what I receive going forward.

Would my JSB be reduced by roughly half? (as 5K is half the yearly entitilement roughly)

Not as simple as that. The means-test is complicated so it's impossible to say what Sw would regard as a reasonable estimate of earnings going forward. Also, they might allow some deductions from the 5k but each case is individally assessed. Impossible to say on a forum such as this what would happen, I'm afraid!
