Hey folks just a quick question I was hoping you could help me out with.

Myself and my partner are getting married at the end of the year, she was made redundant back in April and is receiving JSA (not JSB is that right?). Anyway once we are married the plan is that I'll have her tax credits, meaning I'll be taxed less, which is brilliant as we have a mortgage etc etc.

Now my question is, will she still be able to receive JSA or JSB or some sort of allowance while she still looks for work? Or is she entitled to nothing once I am using her tax credits?

Thanks in advance

If your partner worked up to April, then she's probably on JB which is based on her PRSI contributions. The name of the payment will be on the receipt she gets from the Post Office.

If it is JB, it will continue until her benefit is exhausted (typically 12 months).
If it is JA, which is means-tested, then entitlement depends on your income.

Thanks very much for the reply, it would be JB so we can expect that then til April and then to be means tested... just needed to get it clear in our heads.

Cheers

Don't confuse tax with SW.The fact that married tax credits can be transferred to you does not affect your wife's SW.

Just to remind you that JB is a taxable payment (less E13) and your wife would still be entitled to a PAYE tax allowance
