I was made redundant 5 months ago, I had been employed in my job for 3 years. I got a letter from SW this week stating that my stamps are almost up and that I will need to apply for jobseekers allowance instead.

Surely I have the maximum stamps built up from those 3 years. I was under the impression that Jobseekers benefit lasts almost 12 months provided you have the stamps built up?

That is correct, you can recieve payment for 312 days if you qualify for JB and have over 260 contributions paid or for 214 days if less than that. The issue that offices are having at the moment is the shortened time between people making their claim and the claim running out. Because of this people are being called in for their JA applications earlier due to the backlog in JA.

Does 260 contributions mean 260 consecutive weeks of PRSI?
