I have just had my Jobseekers benefit approved after being made redundant after 20 plus years. It states that I will not receive any increase for my two young children (both living with my wife and I).
My wife is a carer for one of our children and works part time. Her weekly income from her job falls under the €400 threshold that would exclude me from the dependent child increase.
My question is, does her carers allowance come into the equation there too?
I had claimed illness benefit last year through my employer and did receive an increase for children so I’m kind of confused as to why I’m being refused it on JB. Thanks.
You can get an increase in your social welfare payment for a child dependant called a Child Support Payment (previously called an Increase for a Qualified Child). This page explains when you can claim a Child Support Payment (CSP).

Maybe query and/or appeal the decision if necessary?
I actually didn’t, thanks. It’s exactly what I was looking for on that site and didn’t come across it. It looks like I should be getting at least half rate according to that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t wasting my time appealing. Thanks a lot for that.
