I'm currently on JA and about 12 weeks ago my girlfriend had a baby. He was in hospital for a while so he was 8 weeks or so before we got around to registering him. Anyway I went in to the social welfar office to have him added to my claim. My girlfriend and I are bith still livign at home so not living together. Because of this I had to get a letter from her showing what money I give her as maintenance (€30 pw)

That was fine and I brought that up to them on the Thursday .I didnt recieve a letter to say there was any change to my payments so the following Tuesday the normal payment of €188 was in the post office. The last 2 Tuesdays though the payment went up to €202.90, so I'm recieving €14.90 extra per week. So my 2 questions are , is that amount correct and should it have been backdated to when the child was born?

cheers

If your girlfriend is getting a SW payment, she will receive €14.90 pw (the full rate for one child is €29.80).

The office may be waiting to confirm that your girlfriend isn't getting arrears on her claim before paying any arrears to you. If she was paid €29.80 arrears for each week up to the time you started to be paid, then you aren't due any arrears.
