J1 USA Bank Account

Can anyone advise on the best way to bring money to the USA for a J1 student? I've read various threads on other sites it is hard to open an account in USA , he might not have utility bills etc. I'm not keen on topping up the credit card in case it is lost or stolen.

Any advise welcome

A prepaid credit card could be used.
There are several on the market now.
Check out the terms & conditions though as some do have a loading charge.
