Installed latest version of iTunes,made a playlist but cant burn onto CD as "disc burner or software not found" appears.Do I have to download special disc burning software??Using windows XP by the way.Thanks
Hi, when you say latest version, which version is it exactly? I know there had been problems with v8, but the latest update appears to have corrected this from what I know. Are you using a dell?
Try and run a diagnostics first:
iTunes menu Help : Run Diagnostics. See if you cd/dvd drive is showing up.
Have you tried burning through other packages, e.g. nero, WMP and do they work.
I think Apple would deny it, but the 8.1.x.x.x updates seemed to coincidence with a sudden aversion of Dell comps (and some others) from recognising the cd drive.

Odd. So iTunes recognises the drive and it still won't burn. I've only come across this as being a problem with Dell, most seemed to get better with the latest iTunes. I'll have a dig around and see what I can find.
It's been a while since I used Nero, can't be much help there. If you've created a playlist in iTunes, try dragging over to Nero when you're creating a new playlist there to burn. Or if that doesn't work, drag them to a new folder on desktop and burn that from Nero. It's really just to see if the drive still burns outside of iTunes.
Doesn't seem to be any straight answer to this. As I said, it's the old versions of itunes that seemed to cause the problems with the Dells writer.
I've amalgamated some of the "fixes" others have said worked for them, with the installation of a new driver at the bottom.

1. Change burn speed. Most common solution has been to change the burn speed to 8X rather than anything higher. Though this seems to be the ctrl+alt+del of solutions and a general first fix it for everything.
2. Repair Itunes via add/remove software
3. Try the driver installation (seems to work on the Dells):
I went to the middle of the page and clicked on driver downloads and downloaded and save the first option.
Once you install the driver, I would re-start the computer, then try to open i-Tunes to see if you still get that annoying message. If you do, un-install everything that has to do with i-Tunes and Quick time. Make sure you un-istall anything and everthing that has to do with these two programs. Re-install iTunes, re-start, and hopefully when you start i-Tunes up again the message will be gone. Also, when you go to burn a disk, you might get a error message at the end, if you do, change the burn time to a lower time. I think it is set for the fastest burn time and that can cause an issue also.
