Item sent from Eire to UK, damaged in transit - can I claim?

I sent a parcel via An Post to UK. When it arrived in the UK, FedEx dealt with the matter and delivered the item to the purchaser.

When the item was delivered the purchaser informed me the item was damaged and emailed photographic proof of this.

The item was not insured by me. Can I claim anyway?
