Hi folks, can somebody advise on issue. I bought a laptop back in August, I didn't take out any extra insurance or warranty on the laptop. The laptop will now not work. Nothing happens when you try to power on.My wife brought it back to the shop today. Now they have agreed to fix it, but have said that it will take a minimum of 2 weeks as it will be sent to the UK to be repaired, this seems like a lot of time and am just wondering can they agree to do this.I thought that they would havee tryed to fix here or give a replacement/money back. I haven't spoke to them yet about it, but plan to give them a ring in the morning, but just looking for bit of advice before I do so, thanks.

The remedies available are 'repair, replace and refund' in that order. It's up to the retailer as to which they offer...

Am happy enough for them to repair but 2 weeks seems very long, but thanks for the reply, I will have a word with them in morning.

A side issue - did they mention the possibility of having to reinstall the laptop so that any data you had on the hard disk could be lost? Would this be a problem for you? Last time I had a problem with a laptop (a HP under warranty with them although a 3rd party company had the contract for after sales service/repairs) I arranged with them that it was OK for me to remove the hard disk (since that was not the problem) and let them stick one in for testing/repair before returning it so that I could reinstall my original hard disk as I needed to retain the existing setup and data.
