Island in a kitchen, does worktop have to be the same as the rest?

Hi,

I'm thinking about putting an Island in the middle of my kitchen. The rest of the worktop is black but I would like my Island in Black Granite. Would that look odd with two different worktops?

I don't want to replace the rest of the worktop as then the tiles will need to be replaced and I only put that worktop on two years ago.

sounds lovely paulsgirl and you defo dont need to replace the others. I have seen lots in House and Home and all the other interior mags that the island has a different work top. black granite would look really well and make the island a lovely focus point and I don't think it matters if the others are different, I have seen it look really well.

It actually looks much better to have two different worktops - showing off the island as separate from the kitchen units.
