Island Hood extractor fans

Hi,
We're planning on having an island unit in our new kitchen with the cooker within the island. It's a gas 5 ring hob with electic oven. As such we need to buy an island hood extractor fan. I've heard they are a lot more expensive than standard chimney hoods because they provide more extraction than the normal hoods.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to buy or look out for when buying one? I've been quoted €420 for a Powerpoint brand or €650 for a CATA brand both of which I've never heard and the difference between them is the extraction levels. These prices are good because if you get into the well know brand labels they charge €1,000 +.

Thanks

I'm very dubious about any extractor fan which isn't piped to an outlet. You can't filter steam or heat.

The extractor fan (whichever one we go for) will be piped to an outlet. The builder will be going up through the kitchen ceiling with the extraction pipe/funnel and out through to the rear wall.
