ok so i got a quote a few evenings ago for a tiling job , kitchen and back kitchen floor , the guy has done work for me before but not since 2014 so you might expect things to be more expensive today , he is very good

area is 49 square yards ( between both rooms ) and he quoted me 650 euro , i dont know why he measures in yards as opposed to metres but there you are , i think 49 square yards is about 41 square meters ?

it seems about average labour charge to me so i think its about fair

yeah was thinking that , was looking up some old threads on another site about tiles and one poster suggested tile style was better than tubs n tile or right price tiles , looked up tile style and holy cow , many of the tiles are up on 80 euro per sqr metre and those are down from over 100 , at right price and tubs n tiles , most appear to be around the 30 mark , are tile style aimed at upmarket homes ?

no way could i justify spending 2500 on a kitchen , paying the tiler afterwards

You've obviously never been to their showroom! It's like walking into a hotel spa or something.

Ah, I wonder do they still have the selection of Versace tiles at around €700 a square yard!

If you're not looking for designer tiles, check out the 'big box' stores, particularly if they have special offers you can get a very good deal.

In truth after the first few weeks you don't notice the tiles any more, just the overall effect/colour. For the average home, I'm not convinced spending €100 per m gets you much more than a €25 per m tile.

Another tip is to get your tiler to purchase adhesive / grout / trims etc. He'll buy what he likes working with, and cheaper than you'll be able to buy it. Even the 'cheaper' tile suppliers have a massive markup on these as it not something people tend to shop around for.

found a nice one @ 30 per square metre , has a wooden floor look about it

Doesn't matter what you pay for tiles if the person putting them down isn't good at his job. Good adhesive on a clean floor and no cutting corners on cheap stuff. If they're put down badly it will be awful, never mind wall tiles, that can really make everything look terrible. Make sure you see some of their work or you'll be sorry.

ok , just had a walk down to the main bathroom and on suite

his work is good
