I have moved into a rural house recently, we have mains supply, but we have 2 manholes in our drive as shown in the picture. the pump looks to be not working and am wondering at one point was this a well for the house. the 2 manholes are side by side and the manhole with the black pipe going into the water is what is on the other side of the pump manhole (picture taken from other side, but that is the same pipe coming out of the pump into the right hand wall of the pump manhole). Anyone able to confirm what this is?
@Henley - it does look like a water well. have you tried taking out the water pipe (in photo 2 ) ? Also, anything on your fuse board to indicate the power going to the well ?
If the house was switched to mains supply, the pipe feeding the house was likely cut, so be careful trying to get the pump running. Those pumps generally operate via a pressure switch, only kicking in when a tap is turned on.
