JAM.L JP Morgan American Investment Trust plc is a close-ended equity mutual fund launched and managed by JPMorgan Funds Limited.

Is this a regular stock I can buy & is treated the same as buying Apple, Amazon etc for tax purposes, or does it have any of the ETF type tax complications which I’ve read about ?

If they don't know what an ETF is how can they answer whether it is taxed like an ETF?

I would send a query to Revenue online... give them the ISIN.
I asked them recently on the phone, a similar security.. the Revenue official did not know what an ETF is?
I think you have unrealistic expectations of the level of expertise that people who answer the phones in Revenue (and earn about 20%-30% over minimum wage) ought to have.

The person with the greatest interest in making it clear is JP Morgan. Why not ask them?

It makes much more sense for the promoters of traded securities to establish and publicise the tax treatment they attract than to expect Revenue to to monitor and classify every traded security in the world and have a phone service providing an instant answer to queries about the tax status of an individual security.

I wrote to JPM & they replied :

JAM.LN is an investment trust, rather than an ETF. Being an investment trust it is a listed security / stock; listed on the London Stock Exchange. I would however suggest you seek a financial advisor for clarification on your tax point.
