My husband and I are trustees of a house. The life tenant should pay the house insurance under the trust policy. Is there somewhere that we can check if the life tenant has (a) a home policy on the house and (b) has it been paid?
No. Data Protection wouldnt allow it and theres no reason for it. Would suggest you request a copy of it from the tenant. Or insure it yourself if you are feeling that unsure.
you might be able to insist that you are named on the policy as a 'secondary interest' similar to a bank lender and then if policy is cancelled, you will be advised.
Otherwise, you should try to agree with tenant that they will show you the policy ever year.
