Is the population of Co. Leitrim increasing?

There was a piece on the radio a few minutes ago and they said the population of Co. Leitrim is increasing.

Is this true?

for the first time on record the population of Leitrim has shown an increase - up 3 per cent since 1996

Thanks, I always thought the population of Leitrim was decreasing. So had just wondered if what I heard on the radio was correct.

Do you have a link to where the quote you posted is from Ajapale?

Or a link sooty to where the 11.8% figure is from?

Bet it's all those MBNA folk in Carrick-on-Shannon that have changed it round! And wait until the civil service decentralises, the county figures will go through the roof by next census!!
Seriously though, the Rural Resettlement Scheme is also trying to bring people into Co Leitrim - relative was offered a house there, has gone to Co Mayo instead.

Co. Leitrim house prices rose by 29% in 2006 according to Permanent TSB/ESRI!

Actually on the radio piece I mentioned in my original post they also interviewed one of the main auctioneers in Carrick on Shannon and he said at best prices may have risen by 10%.

He said he didn't know where they obtained the 29% figure from!

A breakdown showed that Co Leitrim recorded the highest rate of growth in 2006 at 29%, though this was from a small sample.
