Is RSI number relevant?

Am I right in thinking that the reason your RSI number is sought on the web page is to alleviate all this kerfuffle next year? I understand that I have to pay the charge but I don't want to give them this information.

Could I use the RSI number/name of my minor child, given that the 'tax' is on the house and not on a person?

Whats wrong with giving them your PPS number - they have those details anyway - it is the government who has given you the PPS number in the first place

Why would you not want to give them your PPS?

From householdcharge.ie FAQs

You will be required to complete a statutory declaration which will require the following information:
-name of the owner of the residential property (in the case of multi-owners only one name is required)
- address for correspondence
- address of the residential property for which payment is being made
- personal public service number (PPSN) of the owner of the property
- tax reference number of the owner where the owner is a company
- payment details - credit/debit card(bank account details if opting for direct debit)

Could giving incorrect information (e.g. PPSN of a person other than the owner of the property) be seen as an offence?

I think its fairly clear that doing so is a breach of the legislation.

Not true the Act specifically states the charge is on the owner of a residential property, as follows:

"AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE OWNERS OF CERTAIN RESIDENTIAL
PROPERTIES TO PAY AN ANNUAL HOUSEHOLD
CHARGE................."

Long time reader, first time poster - still trying to make up my mind whether to register and pay

However, I do have an issue with one of the points above - in the case of multi owners of a property, only one name is required.....obviously then
only one RSI number is required.

So if I register to pay under my name and my RSI number for this years tax, the other joint owner of the property does not have to register and submit his RSI number.

Does this mean that I will be at a disadvantage down the line when they are using the information of those who registered this year, to get payment for any future property taxes?

Because I registered this year will I be liable for a (more than likely) higher bill next year and technically the other joint owner will have no liability???

This doesn't seem fair in the cases of joint ownership

We all want more joined up thinking by Govt depts, more computerisation, etc.


Yet when they ask for PPS numbers we object!!!!!!

Your PPS number should be used during EVERY communication with any PS agency.

If you were looking for false information, you'd think you cross check PPS numbers for non matching details, like address, or age. Then cross check the wrong details with other records.
