Is much investment going on in Carrick-on-Suir..?

There certainly is, there is a lot development going on in nearby by villages, Pilltown and Kilsheelan aswell. Being on the main road to Waterford certainly has it's advantages and it's close proximity to Clonmel.
However, Carrick is more a commuter town rather than an employment one, there are not many big employers in the town and most would commute to Clonmel/Waterford for work, IMO.

Not sure how much investment is going on in Carrick, not much I would guess. There never really has been, and any local industry usually closes down with a serious impact on the town (e.g. Sram recently).
As stated it is more of a commuter town and investment usually goes to the areas nearby - Waterford, Clonmel, Kilkenny etc. There should be no shortage of people to employ though, Carrick is still running one of the highest unemployment rates in ireland at around 25% when i think the national average is around 4-6% (well it was in the last report - 2004 Strategic Development Plan). I'd believe that, sure everyone in Carrick knows that property only goes up
To be honest though, I wouldnt base any decisions on the investment acumen of the locals, but I didnt think that they would be as gullible to pay 225k for a one bed. Do you know where exactly those apartments were?
Paul, just a word of warning I think that I might have picked you up slightly wrong at first...If you are thinking of Investing (ie.g. starting a business in Carrick, investing in a business etc) then I would advise extreme caution as I have seen too many come and go ove the years to know that Carrick is not an easy market (because of proximity to bigger towns and non existence of loyaltly to local businesses). If though, you have researched your plan thoroughly and think it will work then I would suggest go for it head on and I sincerely hope you succeed.
If on the other hand you are solely thinking of investing in property in Carrick (rather than starting a business and buying a new home) which would make more sense given the forum we are in then I do not think extreme caution comes anywhere near describing how I would proceed. I'd seriously advise caution regarding Carrick.
Grew up not far away (about 15 miles on the Kilkenny side), and it appears nothing has changed in the 20 years hence:

It always had a SERIOUS social disorder problem (spend a few saturday nights round there, but not many I can tell you).
Probably stems from the cronic unemployment.
