My wife was in receipt of maternity benefit in the 2007 tax year; which was paid directly into our bank account. Do we have to pay tax on this benefit... ?
No MB is not taxable. See towards the end of this page. In addition, any unused tax credits of hers during the period when she was not working through being on MB may result in a tax refund when spread across remaining earnings for the year.
