Is it worth backdating social welfare payments?

I was unemployed for several months and missed about seven social welfare payments, out of nine. This works out at around €1400.

I recently started work as a PAYE worker. I received my new tax cert and see that the two social welfare payments I did receive have been deducted from my tax credits for the year.

My question is: Is it worth pursuing Social Welfare for my missed payments or will they just be taken off me via tax credits?

I received some casual work while I was unemployed and I also missed my first three payments due to an error on my part (didn't realise I had to go to the Post Office!). When I declared my casual work, the department stopped all my payments and asked for a load of paperwork.

I have the paperwork now and am wondering if I should still claim for the weeks when I had no work.
