Straight forward question, just wondering is it ok to freeze fresh milk then defrost it in the fridge for drinking.

I remember mother years saying don't but just want to be sure

Thanks

Not unsafe as far as I know - but the milk is damaged by freezing, and does not taste good when thawed

I assume you mean cartons of fresh milk (& not straight from the cow! :) ). My Mam always used to put a few cartons into the freezer at home for 'emergencies'. Once the milks defrosted, before you open the carton, shake it & the milk should be fine.

I WORK ON LIGHTHOUSES AROUND THE COAST OF IRELAND AND FREQUENTLY HAVE TO FREEZE MILK FOR UP TO THREE WEEKS.
1. SHAKE WELL BEFORE AND OCCASIONALLY DURING FREEZING,
2. ALWAYS DEFROST IN FRIDGE, OVERNIGHT.

NO PROBLEM...........

Perhaps your mother said no to freezing milk when it came in glass bottles.....which would not be a good idea!! :)

Have frozen/defrosted milk successfully myself without any difficulty or noticeable difference in taste.
