I lost my job at the beginning of the month. It's the first time I have been unemployed in 15 years. I am getting 147 a week on jobseeker's benefit.
I just got back from seeing the CWO. He told me that because I moved in with my girlfriend 6 months ago, and she earns 350 a week, that I'm not entitled to any other allowance, or help with the rent or anything?
According to him, we can only get help if our joint income is under 310.80 a week. I asked what would happen if I moved in alone again, and he told me that I would be entitled to that same amount as a single person.
Surely this can't be right? Do they really expect 2 people to live for the price of one?
And how can they expect me to ask her to pay my half of the rent when she's already on such a low wage?
Any advice from anyone? By the time we have paid bills and debts, transport to work for her, bin charges, electric, phone etc there is just nothing left to live on..
Why are you not getting the full rate of €188? JB is not means tested so I am guessing that you have declined an offer of training/work experience from SW/FÁS or something?
