Is it ridiculous to put an air bed on top of a bed frame?

I need a double bed for 3 weeks continuous use but don't want to buy a new bed, as I want to be able to dismantle a bed frame / air bed and store it in the attic. Was looking at different frames and airbed in the Argos - I'm trying to do it on the cheap!

Any suggestions welcome

Re: Air Bed

I have one of those ones that the bear used to be on. Was fine for a while but now loses air the whole time when used so you end up nearly on the floor by morning. Also found it freezing to sleep on, blamed all that cold air under me.

Many years ago, I slept on a air bed for almost 18 months due to an injury.

As a mattress it would be fine, it will lose air so be prepared to reinflate it every few days. You'd be better off having two 1/2 sheets of strong plywood as a base rather than slats.

Put an old woollen blanket or a fleecy blanket under directly over the mattress before the bed sheets to avoid the 'cold' air syndrome. An electric blanket would do the trick as well.

Thanks very much for all the info. I guess the better quality mattress you buy, the less air it loses over time.
