Is it possible to open an account in Oz?

I'm new to this forum.
I was made redundant from job in August and moved into empty family home in Tullamore. House is shared equally between myself and 4 siblings. Decided to spend time here to see if I might move fulltime but having spent 6 months looking, I cannot see myself getting a job within reasonable commuting distance. So, most likely I'll return to Dublin. I have spread my savings across banks, stocks, shares, post office bonds - all in Ireland. Just wondered if it is possible to open an Australian bank account as a non-resident to see if I could avail of their better interest rates. Any ideas?

Try the search engine on the top of AAM (RHS) to see if there are other posts about doing this. There are a number of discussions in "deposits" section about opening foreign accounts. Hope this helps.
