Is it better to try a bank or broker or can you do both at the same time. Anyone recommend any that they found helpful?

Re: Mortgage advice

I agree that you should try both. There is a very good broker in Cork city, can't remember the name but they are located in Grand Parade.

Re: Mortgage advice

Brokers can be good and bad it depends on the individual, check to see what bank agencies they hold, make sure they have most if not all the major lenders, and ask them for a reasons why letter - explaining why they have recommended a certain lender -

Re: Mortgage advice

If you go to a bank and a broker at the same time, you may well be replicating the same work. Would recommend taking either one route or the other. Or, if needs be, go both routes, but make sure to tell the broker which banks you are approaching yourself.

Re: Mortgage advice

Go to a broker but check the banks websites for the best rates available. If your broker gets you the best rate and does all the leg work (gathering paperwork, sussing out the max amount you can borrow, etc) then you're laughing

Re: Mortgage advice

I rang around the banks looking for mortgage quotes and was able to obtain a better quote than the broker we where going to use Rea Mortgages.

Went with the bank rather than Rea Mortgages.

Did you get a good rate though? In my case, REA was able to get me a better rate than what was being advertised by the bank.

Re: Mortgage advice

If you can get a better quote off a bank you can bring that to your broker and they will be able to match it, you can then maybe ask your broker for an incentive to proceed through them as opposed to going directly through the bank yourself, you would be amazed the amount of free stuff you can get off your broker (life assurance, home assurance etc)

Rea mortgages quoted us 315k

PTSB quoted us 350k

EBS quoted us 360k

Re: Mortgage advice

I'm talking about interest rate though. We got an UB tracker through REA and the interest rate we got was a few percentage points below what was being advertised on the UB website at the time. This is far more valuable than a higher amount.

Sorry the rates where the same.
