Is credit union nomination part of legal estate

I had some money nominated from a credit union account to me.
The person died and I received the money
In addition I cared for this person for some time and submitted expenses incurred for this to the estate.
The solicitor processing the estate then asked me to agree to a final amount to be paid from the estate to cover the expenses and I agreed
However when I received the cheque from the solicitor , they had deducted the amount I received from the credit union

Is this correct , I had understood that credit union amounts under 23000 eur were not part of the estate but unfortunately did not clarify this in the process of agreeing
