Sick of listening to peoples life stories while you are trying to relax on public transport.

The solution.

Ideal Christmas pressie for someone who has everything. Maybe they should issue them to prision officers

Another gizmo from the same site. Great for down in the pub. Turn up and down the volume. Change the station if you don't like what's on. Juat as a race is finishing or a penalty is being taken, change the channel. Some crack.

Note the statement on it:

"Important Note: Usage and purchase of this item may not be allowed in certain countries."

I think you'll find it illegal to use here.

What about the trial run with mobile phone blockers in one of the Irish prisons (Limerick or Portlaoise I think) recently?

I think the prison officers thought it was going to effect their marriage prospects and then the cable went missing (I am not saying they were connected!). [broken link removed] It would have been much cheaper to buy few hundred of these and wire them up every 3 or 4 cells. Hell, even the Savoy has a cell jamming system going spare: [broken link removed]

Anyway, I don't see how they would jam the phones in Mountjoy with out wiping out the big cell site on the Garda station beside it and all the local houses. Sure ,why else would we pay over the odds for a 150 ac farm, but to stick the prison building in the middle and jam a way with out effecting the neighbors.

No idea about that, but in Ireland you need a license for all RF transmissions, except for those specifically exempted: everything else is illegal.

For the frequency used by mobile phones there are the operators (which are licsnsed) and the phones themselves (which are exempt by a SI).

Anything else, including a blocker is therefore illegal.

Excellent, must buy one of these for when airlines allow use of mobile phones !!
