I read a thread on boards yesterday where the OP was wanting to buy a particular house off the plans in an as of yet unfinished estate. By the sounds of it the estate agents had her well whipped up with worry that she would miss her chance to buy, mentioning to her that she would go on 'the list' and that there were people 'queuing up' to buy properties in the estate.
She was afraid she was going to miss her dream home and was actually asking for advice on how to ensure she got to the top of 'the list'.
There will always be people willing to buy into the hype.
