Irish Tax Refund & woking in OZ

Can anyone comment on my situation below please:

I am due a tax refund of €3600 because I stopped working in Ireland in May and went travelling around OZ. However, when I went to claim it back, one of the questions was "what did I earn in Australia?" So being honest, I gave my earnings of $18000 to the end of 2008. My accountant told me I may owe revenue mony because of my earnings in OZ. I was backpacking, but still had to earn a crust. My accountant said revenue may not give me back my Irish tax paid in 2008. Surely I am still due my Irish tax????

Has anyone had a similar situation?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you did not break residence in Ireland, you are taxable on your worldwide income in the year in Ireland, therefore you are taxable on your income earned in Oz.

However, you will get a tax credit for any tax you paid in Oz.
