Hi there,
In 12 years I will qualify for the English state pension .
I worked in the Republic of Ireland for 7 yrs and had always assumed my contributions would amount to a small Irish state pension.
Having looked into the matter it would appear I am short on contributions as the rules were changed some years ago !
Is it possible to make voluntary contributions to gain the pension ? I am currently living in the uk .
Regards

State pensions and the rules are very complicated. I would contact the pensions office in Sligo or Donegal, they are very nice to deal with. Also have a look here. As far as I recall the UK pension is very low by Irish standards, so you might consider returning to Ireland.

You need a minimum of 520 paid Irish contributions before you can make voluntary contributions.

Are you currently employed in the UK and paying welfare contributions there ?
Will you continue to be in UK employment up to age 70 ?

If you are not In UK employment for any period of 3 years befpre you reach age 70, you could get employment from an Irish employer for 3 years and make Irish Prsi contributions up to maximum age 70 to make up your shortfall.

You only need to earn a minimum of 38 euro per week to qualify for a Prsi contribution.

Perhaps an Irish resident friend could employ you for a few hours per week.
You could do remote work for them and remain resident in the UK.
