Irish Media Stings

Often wondered does the Irish media ever do a sting operation like the many recently across the water especially poor Fergie?

I'm guessing it's not that common given that these stings are a speciality of the tabloids. We don't actually have a genuine indigenous tabloid industry do we?

It's easier to let the event happen without the sting and then have a Tribunal run for 13 years. That way everyone's happy and in the end the newspapers get far more copy and sales doing a retrospective rant.

There have been some stings though (Sam Smyth some years ago?), I think here they tend to be more serious and, well, proper news and corruption rather than a divorcee trying to make a few bob.

Prime Time Undercover is probably the closest to this - Remember the Leas Cross programme?
