Irish Life investment options

Are we being short changed with options? I have a company pension with a Irish life, and the YTD return I have calculated as 7%. The SP500 has gone up 27%, I have a 401k invested in the US which has saw 22% increase this year.

I selected the riskier options with Irish life but they seem to be pretty poor options. What are options in Ireland / Irish life to get as close to Equity market returns as possible in a pension?

Irish Life's index funds regularly underperform their benchmark, which they manufacture themselves.

There are plenty of other providers who offer global index funds managed by Blackrock, State Street or Vanguard, all of whom track the MSCI World Index.

I am assuming because my company pension is with Irish Life, I can't change it?

If it is your company, yes.

If you are an employee and not in a position of influence, no. But you can complain to the trustees. The group pensions market is very competitive. The other life companies would love to take the business.

There may be other fund managers offered under your scheme as well as Irish Life Investment Managers

it all depends on what the underlying assets are. there is a world equity fund with Irish life that is up 20% this year. Maybe this might be better for you. Bare in mind too that a lot of YTD figures are factoring in a big rebound from the sell off in December so the figures are skewed. What fund are you in?
