Hi all,

Just looking for some advise. I am a complete "technophobic" and my 11 year old has asked for an IPOD for christmas.
I searched on line and I am confussed!!!

What is the best option for him? I don't want to buy one that he will not get the use out of. I reckon a fairly basic model to start off with. Also what accesories would he need? He is asking for a docking station?

Any advice on which one we should go for and where to purchase?
Also budgeting like the rest of the country so the cheaper the better.

Thanks

[broken link removed]

Its the basic version, plays up to 30,000 songs or 150 hours of video.

Now after this, you begin to get into the ipod nano & other specialised versions which range from smaller size & capacity (i.e. how many songs they hold) they are usually cheaper too.

I would suggest starting with an [broken link removed]which will carry about 3000 songs & a couple hours of video. It'll take an 11 yr old kid a while to fill it up & should only cost about E130

I would do a google search for the product which should give you a result that compare prices across the net which may save you a couple of quid or add on a couple of accessories

I'd get this version: [broken link removed]. It's the new and improved nano (and only €4 more expensive than the previous version posted above).

I wouldn't consider the ipod classic for a child. It's heavier, more fragile (due to hardrive with moving parts inside). For these trade-offs it does provide a larger capacity but a child would have no need whatsoever for it - they haven't been around long enough! I've 'done' 4 players for nieces and nephews around the same age and all they want is the latest fiddy cent etc etc. you'll struggle to fill 2 gig.

I agree with the others, if it has to be an "iPod" then a Nano not the classic (for a kid or indeed most people) is the one to get. I assume they have a computer or access to one, already as they are useless without one, as you need to install iTunes. Keep an eye on the Apple refurb store, they have new stock on a regular basis and are the same as a new one. Or if somewhere like Komplett weekly offers.

Thanks for all the replys, very informative.
Although he announced last night that he does'nt know if he wants one now!!!!!!
