Ipod wont recognise WIFI

Ipod used to hook up with WIFI automatically but now doesn't recognise it. WIFI is greyed out on the Ipod and it's trying to hook up with a VPN (Virtual Private Network) I've reset "Network Settings" but to no avail. Really don't want to wipe the Ipod and start as new. Any suggestions?

turn your router off for 20 seconds maybe
frequently happens with iphones laptops kindles etc for me

Good idea, that's what I'm always told by the IT Help Desk at work, turn it off and back on again! Cheers!
