ipod touch problem with apps

apps downloaded to home screen.but when I try to open the apps closes and goes back to home screen.has anyone encountered this problem

Yup especially 1st generation touches. I presume you're using the apps store on the touch to download them?

There are a couple of avenues to try, the first works for me all the time, the other is a bit more sporadic:

1. Download apps using itunes on pc/mac and sync to ipod. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of the touch, but the apps work when done this way.

2. Once downloaded, restart ipod and log into itunes account before opening application.
