Ipod and Stereo USB port

Hi,

I just bought an ipod and assumed like my last (very basic) mp3 player, that i could plug it into the usb port in my stereo and it would work fine. But it doesnt and this is where i use it mostly. Does anyone know of a way around this or if this is normal?

Check if you have an audio in port (microphone). USB connections are configured differently depending on devices, so you may not be able to use an iPod, best check with manufacturer of the stereo.

Thanks for that unfortunately I did a little bit of homework and in iTunes, I ticked the boxes for 'Use as mass storage device' and 'manage my own music'. Now when i connect the Ipod to the laptop, it will notice that show in the taskbar (ie eject etc.) but it wont show in My Computer or iTunes. I cant undo what i did as i cant see it in iTunes. I reset the settings on the actual iPod but it still doesnt work.

Can anyone help me to fix this?
